Craftsmanship

From sketch to sparkle

At GASSAN, everything revolves around craftsmanship, quality, and reliability. It forms the foundation of the family business that has been cherished for more than 80 years and passed down from generation to generation. With an atelier for both jewelry and watches, HOUSE of GASSAN brings together different forms of craftsmanship under one roof. Here, everything begins with a passion for the craft and ends in creations that last for generations.

Every GASSAN jewel begins at the drawing board. Debora Huisman-Leeser, Chief Creative Officer, founder and designer of Choices by DL, is a dedicated jewelry designer with a keen eye for detail and a refined sense of aesthetics. Her designs are a direct translation of her ideas into unique pieces of jewelry. “I like to translate trends into commercial jewelry that fits the moment,” she says. “In doing so, I try to create designs with interchangeable elements, so you can create something new time and again. I always think in possibilities.”

For Debora, it is essential that her jewelry is a reflection of who she is and what she loves. She draws inspiration from all facets of life: her childhood, the countries she visits, fashion, art, and her family. These influences are expressed in the style, use of color, and overall look of her designs: “You can see this, for example, in the Choices by DL Classic Large Ring, featuring a dazzling frame fully set with brilliant GASSAN 121 diamonds. This is also a beautiful example of how GASSAN’s different brands come together seamlessly.”

The heart of craftsmanship

All creations come into being through close collaboration with GASSAN’s goldsmiths, who handcraft, set, and finish each design. “Because we have our own goldsmiths in-house, a design can quickly come to life. An idea can be directly translated into a prototype, allowing us to immediately assess whether it is right in terms of comfort and shape.”

Yet the creative process does not always move at the same pace as her ideas. “Sometimes I move a bit too fast and expect everyone to keep up with that tempo. Creating a sample simply takes a lot of time. Before something is truly right, four to five months may pass. By that time, I am often already working on the next design. Fortunately, the goldsmiths who have been working here for years know exactly how to perform under pressure. Time and again, they deliver exceptional quality and know how to maintain that level.” Whether it is a ring, a necklace, or a pair of earrings, each piece of jewelry tells its own story. Thanks to the craftsmanship in the atelier, countless ideas are transformed into dazzling jewels, even when working under high time pressure.
